XP info

I booted to my rarely used XP installation and updated everything I
could. It looks like there will be no more further updates for Chrome or
Firefox.

Chrome went up to version 49 and said no more updates for XP

Firefox, version 44 found no more updates either though it's now up to 45

The virus checker I'm using is Avast, and there were no problems with
that. I was watching the update process and it actually installed a
Microsoft security update which MS is not rolling out for XP users.
KB970158

So...it looks like if one uses Avast, some more mileage can be squeezed
out of XP

I don't think that's a valid assumption. Firefox 45 only came out a few
days ago, and an update to that is just about to be released, but it's
not yet available on any of my XP or 7 systems. I haven't read anything
about them dropping XP support.

Chrome is still advertised as being for "For Windows
10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP 32-bit", but they are dropping support for XP and
Vista in April.

Ok, next time I boot over to XP I'll check

Or, if you install the POS hack.

Well, I don't really plan to use XP on-line

Once in a while I boot over to use some specific software

Yep Nil, you were right...
booted my XP machine and Firefox 45.0.1 was available

also noted that Maxthon is also updateable on an XP machine

This is a good way to get on the few sites left that say Internet
Explorer only

It's been many years since I've run across a site that said that. I
*NEVER* use IE - haven't since probably the Windows 98 or 2000 days.
It's been Netscape or Firefox ever since.

I think the last such site was Microsoft's own when I was a Microsoft
Authorized Refurbisher
