XP SP2 IS THE WORST THING EVER

I spent the night on the phone to Micro$oft for them to just fob me
off with almost (not our problem!) answers. They got me to install SP2
twice and take it off twice and yet it still does not work. All it
does is reboot my machine after the welcome note comes up, if
Micro$oft think that this is sufficient then they should be very much
mistaken. They really do need to test these things properly before
putting them into the population. I am now thinking of not even
bothering as it is more bother than it is worth. If there is any
permenant problems which have now been caused through there inadequate
experienced staff, they will see a law suit hitting their doorstep
very shortly, or they will be required to get one of their "very
experienced" techie guys to sort out the problem, as I am an IT
manager and I have know idea what these cretins have concocted. I was
amazed by the fob offs saying that it was not there problem it must be
another program which is causing it, however I was only installing SP2
everything else worked before.

All Micro$oft want is a monopoly and do not care about there users and
that they may have non micro$oft software aswell on their machine.

Well I stick two fingers up at Micro$oft and will not be installing
SP2 until they have a finished piece of work

Hi:

Can understand your frustration and I am not a MS fan neither.

But it is my experience that many IT managers or so-called technical experts
cannot figure out where seems to be the problems and causes (needless to say
solutions, of course) but can do one great job - complaining :-)

Thanks for that so I have become more and more knowledgeable on technologies
:-)

Best wishes.

You are a moron of the highest order. You can't even spell "I have know idea
[/sic/]" means you do because the word "know" means "to have knowledge of".

So, you blamed MS for the problems instead of doing what you should have
done and PREPARED YOUR SYSTEM(S) BEFORE INSTALLATION!!

I hope your boss reads this and fires you on the spot!

Fail to prepare - prepare to fail. You didn't follow the Six Step Plan, you
just ploughed on in and installed, didn't you?!

1) Defrag the hard drive(s)
2) Run a systemwide virus scan
3) Run a systemwide spyware scan
4) Update all your drivers
5) Update your software
6) Turn off AVP before installation.

Not MS's problem if you have no common sense! Or just no sense, full stop!

XP SP2 IS THE WORST THING EVER

I can't seem to find the solutions to this set of M$ problems...

Well I broke down and just let that damn autoupdate install that crap
called a Security Patch onto my system.... Here are some quirks I
really hate...

1. It seems that whatever home page I choose in IE is irrelevant
since MSN hijacks it back to MSN.com

2. Though there is a popup blocker, the first thing MSN does is pop up
an ad in a new Window that deceivingly looks like a Microsoft 'click'
here button.

3. The firewall suggests that you uninstall any existing firewalls
(anti competitive practices?) as it might conflict with SP2.

4. For some reason this annoying IE search bar appears as a seperate
window along the bottom of the screen. I can't get rid of it unless I
click the close box [x] in the corner. Just one big piece of annoying
adware! Adaware and Spybot don't see it because it is part of
Microsoft's mission to hide exploits as features!

5. My brother also foolishly installed the Patch w/o consulting me and
found that his Outlook no longer connects to Comcast.com, no matter
what he does.

6. My uncle called me crying that he has auto-updated with SP2 and
IE 6.0 no longer connects to the internet w/ Broadband. Mozilla on
the other hand seems to work fine (most of the time).

I am sure I will here a few more nightmares before the week is out,
however I luckily had no problems with connnectivity or apps, only
that I noticed how awful this patch or should I say Exploit! really
is!

IMO the best IT managers are those that will tell Microsoft to shove their sp2 - thus saving themselves, and a lot of their clients/users, the potential for a whole lot of unnecessary headaches.

There is not a single thing in sp2 that a system can't run just fine without. However, there are a LOT of things in sp2 that an increasing number of systems can't live with!!

Texas Tech pulled the plug on sp2 after two or three installs. Maybe you suggest their IT department is in the 'Hardly' category?
