Can't access file on old system hard disk.
I recently made a clean installation of Windows XP on a SSD and
installed the old system hard disk in an external USB enclosure. However, when I tried to copy some files from the old system hard disk Windows XP tells me access denied. As a temporary fix I reinstalled the old system hard disk in my computer and this permits me to either boot the old system or the new system and access files on my old system hard disk. What security setting should I change in my old system to enable access to files when the old system hard disk is installed in an external enclosure? Thanking you in advance for help Howard |

Thanking you in advance for help Howard By luck I stumbled on a web page that was a big help. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...um/windows_xp- networking/windows-xp-access-denied-to-workgroup-computer/ 49a32f7c-8412-40b5-911d-602aad36beed Two things were required to fix the problem. One, use the same user name and password with both Windows XP systems. Two. with some folders in "Sharing and Security" I had to clear the check mark from "Make this folder private" Howard |
