WMC In Canada

IS MS ever likely to fix the problem with Windows Media Center using tv
tuners in Canada. There's a hack makes it work for some pcs but not all.
Rge guide is also messed up and non-fujnctional.

I have a Hauppage tuner works fine on 2 of my pcs running Windows 7. On
the other 4 WMC fails after scanning for channels. Hauppage's own
software works fine but I don't like that they expect one to pay for
basically an upgrade, no thank you.

On the pcs it works on the tuner works as well as any tv. On one pc
specifically it even records flawlessly using an SSD drive for storage,
that's CC and all in HD. Makes my hardware dvd recorder obsolete.

Yes, there's that little hack that makes the tuner visible
as a digital tuner. For some reason, Windows Media Center
in Canada only actuates the analog tuner.

My tuner is a dual channel hybrid, having both NTSC and ATSC
on each channel. The Windows Media Center laboriously scans NTSC
(and since we no longer use NTSC in Canada, finds nothing),
then the software ignores the digital side. And that's when
you need that little script that's so hard to find. I can never
remember the details when I need them :-/

I have as breadcrumbs he

ATSCCanada_v2

EnableATSCandQAM.bat

A folder called MXF with various guide files in
it such as TorontoGuide.mxf.

OK, this might be the page. Has a ZIP to download.

https://pnear.wordpress.com/2009/07/...windows-7-rtm/

"Double-click on the file "EnableATSCandQAM.bat" which
will insert some configuration information into the
Media Center database that forces ATSC and QAM tuners
to be recognized."

I doubt Microsoft will be fixing anything now. We're in
extended support, so only security updates...

Yea, that "fix" is required for it to even work. My problem is that
often it's WMC itself has the problem when it finishes it's inital setup
scan. Gives an obscure error message and tells you to try again. As I
said, approx. 50% it works otherwise no which is annoying to say the
least given they're all fairly capable Win7 pcs.

There are plenty of Guide Data problems.

That's to be expected.
