Looks like it's for Cisco devices.

And lots of other networking gear. I use a cable like that to connect a
laptop (USB-to-Serial DB-9) to a Console port (RJ-45, but Serial rather
than Ethernet).

Server serial cable.

Where server means actual server, router, switch, proxy, load balancer,
and many other types of networking gear.

I've used several pieces of equipment that used such a cable for
monitoring and control. Networking equipment and also a UPS. For some
reason, the manufacturer decided to use a 8p8c connector instead of the
DE9 usually used for serial.

I think Cisco started that and others followed. Whatever is used, it's
nice to be able to use the same cable across multiple pieces of
equipment from multiple vendors.
