While I don't watch movies on my computer, I do run into music videos
that I cannot watch or download because of my XP comp. I use the 3dyd
downloader to download them by entering in the videos URL. 3dyd
downloads the videos without a problem. I then watch them to see if I
want to keep them.

I _believe_ youtube-dl (http://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/) is still
XP-compatible. (Despite its name, it can be used on many sites other
than YouTube.) It's very frequently updated - I just checked, I had
2021.04.07, checked, and now have 2021.04.17 . (Yes, it's a
command-line prog.; however, you can put your garlic and crucifix away -
it's dead easy to use: most of the time, just giving it the URL suffices
[and that's pastable - alt-space E P].)

Yes, you will learn about the "pasting an enter" thing,
when you have just crafted a devastating "disk erase"
command, made a typo, and after clicking the mouse
button, realize your mistake. For example, you can quite
easily erase a partition using Robocopy. Just type
the wrong drive letter, is enough to do it.

Take great care to *not* copy the CR on the end :-/

Been there and bought that TShirt.

Any time you are doing Command Line work, relax, and
take your time. Caffeine fueled typing, whacking the
return with glee, is not recommended. The cleanup after
a mistake, is going to take a hell of a lot longer,
than slapping in typos in a mad rush. Slow and steady
wins the race.

You remind me of the - almost certainly apocryphal! - story of the guy
who'd just finished proudly giving a lecture on his new speech
recognition system and invited the audience to try it out, and some wag
from the back yelled out "format space see colon enter why enter".

The only time I'm likely to be pasting into a command window or similar
these days is giving a parameter (a URL) to youtube-dl, or editing my
quotes file (which I still do in the text editor in XTGOLD, for
historical reasons!).

If you do leave it with its original name, remember that the system will
type it out for you if you type enough of its name to be unique, then
hitting Tab.

I've noticed that the -U - update - option still works if you do that,
which is quite clever, since update works by creating (and then
removing) a batch file.

I've also created a y.bat file that calls it with the "ignore outdated
certificates" option included, since at least one of the sites I often
use are a bit lax in keeping theirs up to date.

If it uses the command-line, it can be put in a batch file.

I've done that when I want several videos (say a series). Or even
a random assortment. (Also, I only have to spell things correctly
the once.)
