*Inkjet* printers are typically sold at a loss, not all printers.
Absolutely right Ken, I bought my Okidata c5150n Colour Laser-jet about
10 years ago for about $700.00 and the Toner Carts *new* from media
Sciences cost me about $135.00 for a set of 4 CMYK and last me about 2
years.
Not quite photo quality but very good for my purpose, This is really an
office quality machine and churns out copy no end, Only had a couple or
three paper jams in all that time.
Best printer purchase I have ever made.
Mine is a much less expensive color laser Samsung, not an Okidata, but
like you, I greatly prefer laser printers to inkjets. Yes, they cost
more up front, but with a little time, they become the cheaper
alternative.
And with a laser printer, you don't have to worry about the ink drying
out and clogging the inkjets. Personally, I stay away from, and
recommend against, inkjets.
And while I'm on the subject, for most people (unless you have a
severe desk space restriction) I also recommend against
printer/scanner combinations. When one of the two fails, I don't want
to have to replace both.
