Where is the startup folder in WXP?

We searched and can't find it. Find just finds all kinds of things that
have "start" in them but no "Startup" folder.

Where is the startup folder in WXP?

each user has his or her name listed under "documents&settings.
Under these user names are various folder one is called "start Menu"
under which you will find "programs" under which you will find "startup"
Each user therefore can have different items "startup"

The other items that start when you turn on the machine are listed under the
MSconfig tab.
this is accesed by clicking start/run and typing in msconfig
once the system configuration utility opens you will see a "start up" tab
Under that tab you will see a whole list of things that open when the system
starts.
You need to know what each one of these does before you uncheck the box to stop
the start up.
good luck

I just read on another MS NG not to use msconfig but to remove the program
from the START folder. We can't find a start folder in WXP/home/SP2. See
below. There is no "ALL PROGRAMS" when I click on START. Where is the
STARTUP folder located?

Where is the startup folder in WXP?

If you are using Windows XP, and you click on the Start button in the lower
left corner of your screen, then you will see a line that says All Programs,
just above the Start button.

I had to change it BACK to XP, we keep it where it looks like W98 - so ok,
where is the startup FOLDER? That's just a list of all programs on my PC.
How do I remove programs I don't want to start up when I boot my PC, in the
*startup folder* rather then use msconfig?

## OK the STARTUP folder is EMPTY although several things START UP when I
boot, such as Zonealarm, Norton, Wordweb, PopupStopper etc. They are NOT
Listed in the "startup" folder. Where else would they be?

The other items that start when you turn on the machine are listed under

They're are several possible locations. Go to Mike Lin's web site
www.mlin.net and download his startup control panel, that will show you
what is starting from where and saves the pain of playing with the
registry.

Where is the startup folder in WXP? STARTUP Folder is EMPTY!

Free

You go to each program that starts up automatically, and if you don't want
it to do that, you look in program options or preferences and you disable
the function.. it is that easy..

MSCONFIG is for diagnostic purposes only, and should NOT be used to curtail
programs starting up on a permanent basis..

Going into the registry to stop them is UNNECESSARY and DANGEROUS..

## There are too many in the msconfig window to do that. I don't even know
what most of them are or where to find them such as "Dumpprep O-k" &
"Documents & Settings/owner's desktop" & "Msconfig Emergency".... ??? and
many others.
