Strangely the AOL Shield (a subset of Firefox) didn't make the trip and I need to reload my virus scanner. I haven't had time to check it all yet, I am still futzing with the "skin" on this thing but so far so good. It was list at $59 for the "pro" version and I might not have needed all of that but it did let me put both drives in my original machine and port the stuff over. This began life as a W/7 machine and I put another drive in it to run XP so I just had to put the original back to be OK on that part. If you have a bunch of stuff in your XP machine that you want to keep when you move to 7, this is the trick. Thanks again Bill. Glad to be of assistance. It's just about the only software that can do it, to the best of my knowledge (well there was one other one from Easeus that seemed less attractive). And I think the prioe is worth it, although it's being permanently tied to a specific PC seemed a bit restrictive, but I guess that is how they are able to support it and still stay in business. The only thing that got sort of ugly was moving Norton AV. It seemed to just move some fragments that did not show up in installed programs but were enough to prevent installing a fresh one. I had to go find the Norton uninstaller program to clean it out first. I still haven't tried everything but most of the stuff seems to be working. I still have to play with the sharing around the network a little to get all of my shares going because that doesn't port over either. All things considered, on a machine as loaded up as this one is it was worth the $47. My other machines were pretty simple to get going because they are just streaming media to TVs and such. I don't have that many applications running. It was easy to get them going from scratch. |
