You cannot back into the future.

You certainly can. Just try putting your car in reverse, let the clutch
in and keep an eye on the second hand of your watch.

You can also go back to the future, provided you've already been there
at least once. And you can go back to the past.

It's a rather moot question as to whether you can go forward to the
past. But I reckon you can.
Get yourself a Delorean, convert it into a time machine, set the
controls for 1947 and speed up to about 84mph in forward gears.
