Green light?

Every so often the little green online light (two little computers)
disappears from the toolbar, but I'm still online.
I put the light back by unticking the box in network settings, and then
ticking the box.
No big deal, I am just wondering why this happens.

Do you connect automatically to the network or manually when needed?

Is it missing after a boot up, login, manual connection or does it
disappear sometime after?

It's quite common and can be caused by timing. The notification or
tray area is part of Windows Explorer and if the Explorer process is
busy when another process is trying to add an icon that operation may
time out and fail. I had a service that was causing all tray icons to
not appear at boot. The fix was to change the startup type from
automatic to manual.

If your icon is initially present but disappears during a session
(assuming you haven't disabled the network) then I don't know!

I read Steve's post as meaning that - it was there but disappears - as I
thought I remembered the same thing sometimes from when I was on XP.

But this can only happen if we replace the urge to blame with the urge to
learn so that it is safe for staff to admit errors and raise concerns without
the fear of being punished.

It has always happened on a cold boot up the next day.
Thanks for the info, thanks for the reply.
