Repair/Reinstall issues
I had a CMOS battery dieing and messed up the BIOS to the point where the
only way I could start the machine (while awaiting arrival of the new battery) was to using the XP Intall disk in the CD. New battey was installed, and XP not working well at all, extremly slow (multiple minutes) boot, IE disappeared altogether, wireless wetwork no longer detected. I attempted an XP "Repair" but when prompted for a paswword nothing (bios or XP admin) worked. Tried "Reinstall" and program advised that a repair would likely fix the issues, so I chose that option and a repair progressed (no PW needed at that point?!?) During Repaira dialog came up stating that "CIMWIN.DL_" could not be found and to insert Win XP Install Disk which of course was already in the drive. I opted to skip that file and progressed to get another dialog that "HMMAPI.DL_" could not be found and to insert the XP Install disk. Only option to move forward was to skip. I know have an installation that boots up esentially normal, but I do not have any detection of my wireless network (card is working, network is operating with other machines) so I cannot get to email, cannot get out to install SP2 etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated -- Many Thanks, Kevcro |
