Worn Out Retread October 20th 09 03:13 PM

Backup made by Vista Home Premium 64

I am wondering if I can use a backup made while using Vista Home Premium 64
to populate Windows 7 with my data and settings made using said backup.

Has anyone done this?

Data you can simply copy them to another disc or folder. Typically your user
folder and subfolders (My documents, My pictures, Favorites an so on).
Settings like mail accounts, you can backup and later restore them by using
programs like Windows Vista Manager (Fantastic program, same as Window 7
Manager for Seven)..
Any other settings you'd like to save?

Mail and messaging settings are the main thing when it comes to "settings."
I have data that I will transfer to another computer on my network and then
bring them back after the installation of W7.

Thanks

If you're using Windows Mail in Vista, please don't forget that W7 does not
include it anymore. There is still a way to use Windows Mail in W7, but it
may be a little tricky:

For Windows Mail backup and restore, Windows Vista Manager will do.
If you're using Thunderbird, or Outlook, etc. you'll need a different
approach.
