Problem when playing DVD's
 

I have been watching DVD's in window's media player, and my PC has been
turning itself off suddenly during the DVD. I turn the computer on again and
start watching and within 10 -20 mins it does it again. Could this be a
problem with my PC or with the DVD itself?

It sounds more like a problem with overheating. I'd check all the fans
inside the case to ensure they're working correctly.

But the computer never turns itself off at other times, only when I'm playing
DVD's.

Unless you play a lot of games, playing a DVD is graphically quite a task
for a PC. What graphics card (or chipset) do you have?

Is it too much trouble to just take a peek inside the case to check whether
all the fans are turning correctly? Overheating can be a terminal
problem... if you cook that CPU it's going to cost a lot to replace it, a 2
minute glance at the fans can save you several hundred dollars. A heatsink
and fan will run about $30 for a CPU, about $5 for a case. Clearly the
better option than replacing the motherboard and/or CPU or graphics card.

If it helps at all I agree with Cari it does sound like a overheating
problem.
Besides checking to see if the fans are working check the vents to make sure
they are dust/dirt free.
Also if your comfortable with it you really should open the side panel (shut
the computer off first!) and use a can of compressed air to clean out the
inside. Do this carefully so you don't disconnect anything.
I open all my boxes up and clean them out every few months.
The other things is to make sure there is space around the computer and that
it isn't completely enclosed in a cabinet without any ventilation.
