That's been around a while. A recent variation on it is you get a call
claiming that the "Microsoft Refund Department" has money for you. Of
course when you call they try to tell you your license has actually
expired and you need to pay them. I have a lot of fun with those guys
when I have time to play. Sometimes they want to use TeamViewer to remote
in and I have a Linux virtual machine set up for that purpose.

It's loads of fun watching them try to run Windows commands in that
environment and nothing works, they are totally clueless. When the call
ends in them shouting a third-world curse from their ****hole country
and hanging up I consider it a job well done.

Did you asked which of the 100 computers you manage needs the licence
renewed? ;-)

I actually got one of them to hang up on me with that question instead
of me hanging up on them.

We didn't answer the phone or call them back to find out.

New to me. When I looked up the number, I saw posts from just the past
few days, but perhaps they were just the most recent and there were much
older ones if I'd scrolled down.

I've never gotten a call about a license, but I've gotten other calls
from "MS". Sometimes I ask if their mother knows what they do for
money". (I don't use the word "earn".) One guy spent more than 5
minutes with me arguing that he wasn't a thief.

Now real people don't call me, just a recording.

And I've found gthat pressing 3 makes spam machines hang up, but I
don't know that means they've taken my number off the list. Other
numbesr I push don't do anything.

You must have lots of time to waste. I just hang up on spammers and
scammers as quickly as possible.
