address book

Jim
I know where xp holds the files for the address book but where is the data
stored for the address book. Every time I suffer a system crash, I lose my
address book and would at least try to make a knowledgeable attempt to
recover the data contained for the address book so as to not have to
continually rebuild it each time.

What is the path to the actual data for the address book?
Is it hidden in a hidden folder? Just where is it?

Please reply to me directly instead of the grouped or at least cc me with
the reply.

Thanks,

Jim

The data is stored in Whatever_Name.wab wab is the extension for Address
Book File.

%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Whatever_Name.wab

Open your Address Book | Help | About Address Book |
Shows the path and the name of the file

%userprofile% is usually C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name

address book

Hello Jim
Hope this gets through - its the third try
Do you back-up your system on a regular basis?
If you do, why not save your address book as well.
I was shown this way - there may be other methods!!!
Open O.E/File/Export/Address Book - you then get a window Address Book
Export Tool - highlight 'Text File (Comma....etc) -click export - you then
get CSV Export - click Browse - I then get My Docs - I then click on the
appropriate named folder (BackupAddBk) which then appears in the File Name
window. 'Save as Type' should show as 'Comma Separated Values(.csv)
Click on Save - Your are then back in the CSV Export window where you have
the 'Save exported file as...' - Click next - you are then asked for the
fields you want to save(I do the lot) - Click 'Finish' - I am then asked if
I want to replace file with what is already saved and I say Yes. Then I am
told that the export process was completed - Click OK.
I then have this updated address book added to my regular back-up on disk.
As yet I have not had to import this address book back into a system that
has been cleaned after a crash. So I cannot say it works.
From time to time, I do a full printout of my address book.
I am not a computer expert - this is what I do ready for a crash.
