Not getting MSN mail alert sound

MSN Messenger
OS Windows XP Home
IE6
Outlook Express6 is Default mail

After upgrading from MSN8.5 to MSN9 I am now NOT getting
an alert sound (which I select) as mail arrives (I see the
notification window in lower right).
I DID have a sound with MSN8.5
Now before you ask me to check something, please note I
have done the following:

MSN is signed-in

IE6ToolsOptionsAlertsALL CHECKEDSoundsMSN

MessengerNEW MAILcheckedOK(my selected)sound is chosen

MSNMail and MoreAlertsAlerts are ON

NOTE: when I installed MSN9 I had to call MSN support to

set up my Outlook Express again which is working fine.
(I remember we changed from POP3 to HTTP if this is
significant)

There must be something else I need to check but I don't
know what. When I see the mail notification window pop-up
I click on options and all of the above have been
checked...but, only silence when mail is received.
NOTE: I hear the sound in Outlook Express when mail is
downloaded to OE when I click Send/Receive and mail is
delivered but NO sound at the moment mail arrives to my
computer.
Thanks for any help,
Larry
