Issues with Audigy soundcard and antivirus not getting along under XP Pro

Running into audio issues that are 1) Selective and 2) apparently some
kind of conflict between antivirus and an Audigy Platinum EX
soundcard.

After the latest update, XP Pro is now booting to the logon screen -
i.e. your user name with a chess piece icon. It also goes to this
after a period of time. It previously just booted to the desktop...

This seems to have fixed it

Run regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

To reverse type in the same minus the /u

Can anyone shed light as to why this was happening only when an

Having hooked it up to the internet and done a Windows update, it now
isn't displaying the behavior. Interesting.

The only difference is I don't currently have the USB 2.0 external
drive hooked up...
