Why didn't you purchase the correct PSU rather than splicing what you
thought were the correct wires?

Is your OS on one of these drives? You cannot disconnect the OS ( System)
drive. Also if these are IDE drives they are not hot swappable, you'd need
SATA drives.

retained.

It is impossible for two instances of XP to attempt to boot a PC.
You probably need to go into BIOS setup and change the boot order of the
hard drives to boot from the one with the fresh install on...
