what is windows doing when its displaying the WindowsXP logo and the 3 bars are scrolling across the bottom?

Does anyone know what processes windows is going through when it is on
this screen? I have a computer that starting taking longer and longer
to load and now those 3 bars scroll across the screen 54...

wont boot, 0x7E error, ntbtlog.txt shows srv.sys, can get into safe mode but not quite, etc etc

Thanks for the info. I found out through your links that it was the
intelppm.sys driver.

So I had a problem with this pc giving constant yet vauge "Windows has
recovered from a critical error" messages. I tried to reload program
files by booting to the cd and after the initial deleting...
