I installed new wireless mouse and keyboard, with wireless receiver that
plugs into a USB port.
During install Windows XP recognised the USB device and installed the
necessary driver etc - Keyboard...

Hi Airman,
Yes I did download and run UPHClean-Setup.msi a few weeks ago, but that,
like everything else I have tried has failed to cure the shutdown problem.

Thanks for your insight Randem - One of my drivers is causing my shutdown
problem ?
Could you let me know which driver in particular on my system may be
responsible ?

When shutting down my desk top computer in the normal way, it goes through
the normal process of 'Saving your settings' followed by 'Windows is
shutting down' and after a few seconds of disc...
