Shut Down Problems

My PC with XP Home will not shut down from the Start Button, Turn Off
Computer, Turn Off. Nothing Happens. I can restart or Stand By without

Something has just happened with my, or my friends messenger. When we are
chatting if one of us is not on line then instead of storing the message
until we next open messenger or return to our PC's...

Having posted this I Googled the problem and was directed to Kelly's Corner
where I found that if I right clicked on the desktop and chose Properties and
then chose Themes my theme was not set to...
