Try setx.exe

You can try setting env variable using setx.exe(a windows 2000 resource kit utility)

Alternate is to set the values directly in env variable registry...

can you post the output of "ipconfig /all" command?

This contains the DNS search scopes. Before I talk, I want to see what is there in your laptop.

Try this...

Visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909605 and click on FixIt from problematic machine. This should address the issue. It also has the manual procedure to follow.
