I finally recovered the folder with EaseUS data wizard, by selecting that second option to recover files from deleted partitions. It said it would take 16 hours but it only took about 5.

Thanks! Weirdly, this was already checked when I opened performance tab, but I turned it off then back on and its now fine.

Whats a good image management app?

I found a batch plugin for GIMP and it worked perfectly. On a quality setting of 90 and resizing by half, I have reduced the 2 GB to 200 MB.
