I posted that I still needed help in my original subject thread, but no one
answered.

Hi. Okay, this is what happened. Somehow I moved my
Start-up folder (the one in which you can place programs that
will also boot-up when you log on) out of the program list (at
the START list) and I ended-up with a duplicate one. So I tried
to get rid of the new one -- and ended up with yet another.
And so on. I managed somehow to delete what I thought
were the extra ones, but the one I have left in the START list
doesn't work -- that is, the programs I put in it will NOT load
automatically when I sign on.
I checked the location of this one remaining "Start-up" folder
under Proprieties and it appears to be the same as the
original one. But still the programs in it won't load when
I start-up.
So, how the heck to I get a *WORKING* Start-up folder
working in my user-partition. And how do I get rid of
any duplicates that might occur -- if I can get a working
Start-up folder -- without killing the one that *is*
working?!

This is one answer I got:

The Startup folder is a system folder and if you delete or rename it,
another will be created at next boot. You just need to put the
shorcuts
back in that folder from the one you moved out of place.

I had already tried this as I explained in my original post, and this did
not work.

This is the other answer I got:

"Rich Barry" wrote:
Go to G:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
There should be shortcuts to the programs you want
started on bootup. If not you will have to create new
shortcuts by rt clicking on the program.exe files and
choose send to desktop as shortcut.
Then move all the shortcuts into the Startup folder.

There was NO Startup folder at that location.

Then perhaps your profile is damaged.

I asked about a week ago what I should do next, if I should create a new
"Start-up" folder, but no one replied.

So I tried creating a new "Start-up" and put the new shortcuts (to other
programs) in it, but this did not work. None of the programs started on
the
next boot-up.

I've tried this in different ways, drag this folder and various shortcuts
back and forth between this folder and my Start menu -- and NOTHING WORKS.

Does anyone know HOW I can SOLVE this, please!

Try creating a new user profile with administrative rights. Log into it,
and see if the startup folder exists and works. If it does, your existing
profile is possibly corrupt and you might consider migrating to the new one.

If it doesn't work, it may be that your Windows install is damaged in subtle
ways that will be hard to fix - as you are experiencing. I would in that
case suggest getting a new drive, making a new XP install, and seeing if
that works. If it does, migrate as above.

This will let you stop wasting time and get on with using the system.

For reference, where I am, 160 gig (and also 250,. 320 and 500 gig drives)
are $50.
