I like 7 but don't like 10. Is there something wrong?

Perhaps you're a minimalist. I guess I'll be able to explain it better
once Windows 10 is installed n my system.

Alternatively, you can use Linux but you're setting yourself up
for a crapload of compromises with the amateur, buggy mess of code it
offers.

I can only guess from this that you haven't used Linux recently. Even
if you do think it's buggy, there's still another 5 years before you
need to find an alternative to Windows 7, and who knows what will be
available then.

I've used Linux on and off even recently. This is the operating system
which, on my previous laptop, wouldn't wake from sleep, wouldn't shut down
properly, caused screen tearing in games (with the proprietary drivers),
wouldn't boot to desktop after an update, had a kernel which caused data
loss (kernel 4), would support my printer if connected directly but
wouldn't work if connected wirelessly, etc.. If you use it for more than
just an hour or two, you encounter the problems and they pile up quite
quickly.
