Default Faster browser?

Ken,

Is there something faster that also works well I can
use on my old XP system?

That fully depends on what you expect your browser to be
able to do (and as you did not mention that ...)

Gmail, Google News, Google and weather.

Than no. Those are most likely fluffed-up with sh*tloads of javascript,
which makes them slow no matter what you do.

I use Firefox 27.0; Google the search engine works fine for me, starting
at https://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en . I can't comment on
gmail, as I don't use it - assuming Google News means Google Groups,
then I think it wouldn't work, but then if you want speed I wouldn't use
that way of accessing news via any browser, but a proper news client
instead. As for weather, unless there's an obvious default in your part
of the world, you'll have to say which site:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/tn27 works OK-ish in F27 for where I am,
but generic https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather doesn't at the top (in common
with lots of sites [especially BBC ones], it seems to contain lots of
tall narrow columns), though does if I scroll down past the top bit.
