I'm new at video capture and want to know if there is a benefit or
downside
of selecting the box that says, "Save video clips after capture".

You need to supply more info on exactly how you are capturing.-
From an external device such as camcorder, DVD player or VCR
or an internal TV card?
What software are you using for capture?
Your oblique message of "save video clips after capture" could mean
anything - from when you close the application it may mean do you want
to save as an ongoing production, (If you've performed editing and saved
the clips, then no you do not want to save again) or if capturing via an
externally connected TV tuner, or a USB/Firewure capture device, these
type of capture use a buffer, a temp folder to store whilst viewing, so it
may
mean do you want to clear the buffer etc.
Detail the hardware and software being used and at what point do you
get the message about saving clips?
