Default No sound on Dell Dimension 9100 reinstall

Ok, here's an update.

I gave up the struggle trying to fix it, and started over.

Installed XP SP1 from another restore CD.
And updated the sound drivers.
The sound worked fine out the integrated sound.
But not the sound care.

Then I removed the sound card.
Creative Sound Blaster Augidy 2 z5
Model: SB0350

and installed XP Media edition.
Installed the sound drivers, and the Power DVD.

The sound worked, and media player worked.

So, I'm concluding that this was caused by a bad soundcard.
Shame on the guy who sold this machine to me!

I also notice that this 9100 machine is much louder than my Dell 4700
and 4600.

Overall, I'm really disappointed, and have buyer's remorse with this.

AFAIK you can only have the onboard integrated or the audio adapter
enabled, not both. If you're going to use the integrated audio you should
be able to keep the add-on audio adapter installed but need to disable it in
Device Manager. If you want to use the add-on audio adapter you need to
disable the integrated audio in the BIOS. Some of the newer boards will
automatically disable the integrated audio if an add-on audio adapter is
installed.
