Is there a way to disable automatic updates of Skype?

When I am doing a time-critical task, I do not want to sacrifice
bandwidth, CPU resources, or disc timing for any updates. Furthermore,
I prefer to log any changes to my PC and then archive the update file.
I cannot do this if an application updates without my prior approval.

This comes up from a Google search, but I would have thought you'd been
there. Does it not work for you?

How do I stop Skype from automatically updating 2018?
How to Disable Skype's Annoying Auto Updates

Launch Skype for Windows if it's not already open.
Navigate to Tools - Options.
Select the Advanced tab in the left pane.
Select Automatic updates in the left pane.
Click the "Turn off automatic updates" button. ...
Click Save.

I cannot find Tools. When I go to Settings, there is no Advanced.
According to various forums -- including a Microsoft forum -- the
ability to disable automatic updates was eliminated in Skype 8.

NOTE: Skype updated twice already this morning.

I just now updated my registry per the suggestion at
http://www.get-itsolutions.com/skype-silent-install-msi-and-disable-updates/
(about half-way down the Web page at the heading "Skype disable auto
update."). I will report back here if I see any results.

President Trump claims there would have been no victims in
the Pittsburgh synagogue if there were armed guards inside.
He ignores the fact that there were two police officers already
in the facility, armed with their service weapons, before
the shooting started. The problem of mass shootings cannot
be solved by having even more guns.
