Just got a Happauge 959Q Hybred TV Tuner. It's a USB device.

Plug it into main pc running Win 7 Home Premium and it was recognized,
downloaded drivers and once installed the WinTV 7 app from Happauge it
went thru the channel scan and everything was hunky dory.

Doing that with WMC and it's channel scan produced no channels until I
found an add-on told WMC to check for over the air from attenna digital
channels which apparently it doesn't check for (only old analog ones no
longer available). Once this hack was installed WMC found the channels
and it also works fine. Both produce very good pic and initial recording
tests look much better than old analog gear I tried years ago now.

So I take it to may laptop and start process all over again. Same
results with one very big exception!!! WMC scans for channels and
detects the Digital Tuner properly and even it's "location info".
However after doing it's scan which presumably picks up the channels (it
doesn't display what it found) else the info isn't shown instead being
an error message (before add-on does this). However when I click on
finish it gives an error and suggests I try again ... and again ... and
...

The Happauge Win7 app seems to work fine in limited tests so far on the
laptop so hardware definitely working even though as expected one of the
channels doesn't appear. That's almost certainly because it's using a
set of rabbit ears rather than rooftop attenna which the desktop unit
uses.

Haven't a clue how to proceed?

I have a Hauppauge WinTV DVB-T decoder which I used to use very well with
WMC on my Vista and Win 7 PCs. I don't remember having to get an add-on
utility. I only stopped using it when I got a new device (PCTV 290e) that
does DVB-T2 (eg HD) as well as SD. As far as I remember, the Hauppauge
drivers installed without any problem and WMC detected it and found all the
channels. The only problem I have with WMC is that some channels don't
automatically find the listings in the EPG, and you have to manually set up
the correct channel-listings relationship.

When WMC scans it displays the number of channels found so far and the names
of them. The list has a scroll bar but it's difficult to keep it where you
want it because it always returns to the top of the list (which may be the
first mux to be detected).

Yea, I will try the rooftop attenna to at least see if that's the
problem. None of the rest of your reply really seemed pertinent. Tuner
gets "seen" and presuambly channels are found but it then gives a non-
specific error when you click Finish for the setup and it's repeat it
all again. I'm in Canada and I do tell it so and include proper postal
code etc. same as with desktop so I'm little stumped, hope it's just
attenna.
