Is that newsgroup being spammed now? It's been very weird over there for
the past couple of days. Just wondering if anyone else has noted.
Paul? Anyone?

The poster is trying to avoid DMCA and EUCD takedowns by posting its
binaries in the (unrelated) Windows 7 newsgroup where it hopes the
copyright owner(s) won't be watching. It has privately messaged
its followers where to find the binaries.

It doesn't care about the Windows 7 newsgroup group or the readers
of that group. To it, they are just "collateral damage".

The big binary news servers don't care too much about text groups
any more. They make their money by selling gigs to binary users.
That is why they allow this kind of stuff in text groups.

If you were using a text-only server (like Paul is), chances are
you would not be seeing this stuff.

I'm not actually seeing the stuff except for the message count. Outlook
Express simply says something like "6800 messages not downloaded", but
they're not really there (or else they are blocked from my access), so it's
a bit illusive. I can reset the counter by clicking on Catch Up, which
resets the message counter to normalcy. Otherwise it simply shows "6800 (or
whatever) messages not downloaded" in the task bar, which is a bit annoying
and perhaps misleading. I say perhaps because....

Either the message counter is not getting properly updated to reflect what
is really there on the Giganews server, or those binary posts really really
are there on the server, which I suppose is more likely, but I can't see or
access them, for some reason ( not that I want to).
