The Windows username/password window opens when trying to access a shared

the username/password. *The others open right up.

Ernie,

check (a) the share access rights and (b) the folder and file
access rights.

Hans-Georg,
Thanks so much for responding. *Still researching what is going on. *Not
sure what you mean, i.e. (a)...., (b)..... *Here's my setup:

Turned off SFS
The Shared Folder is on the Western Digital External HD with USB connection.
*Right-clicked on the desired share folder, selected "Share this folder". *On
Permissions, set "Everyone" for read and change rights.
CLicked OK.

This really seems weird because this is the only folder that is requiring
the login id/password.

With Simple File Sharing (SFS) turned off, in addition to clicking on
the Sharing Tab - "Share this Folder" and clicking the Permissions
button (and setting to Everyone), you also have to go to Folder
Properties and the "Security" tab and make sure that the security for
the folder is set up such that "Everybody" has the appropriate access
to the folder as well.

With SFS turned on, you must make sure that the "Guest" user has the
appropriate access.
