There is some interesting evidence being reported in
a related matter. (See BBC News, The Register and others.)
MS have made clear that they're giving up on phones.
(Bill Gates uses an Android!)
Not exactly a surprise, but it's the first time they've actually
admitted failure. It's an interesting development and clearly
said the platform is kaput in terms of development. The main
point of the Metro UI and Metro/RT/universal apps was to
provide consistency across desktops and phones, and to sell
a kind of "Microsoft lifestyle" gimmick. Now they've
got the Metro app thing being pushed on the desktop
and they don't even have a mobile product to lend a
rationale to it. And tablets? The Surface seems to be
successful because it's more like a laptop. So whither
Win10? Maybe something like a Java-esque tablet sandbox
browser device, with online-connected, subscription
software, is the planned destination. But that seems
especially odd now, as a desktop-only design.
