How pray tell does a firewall prevent Pop-ups. Pop-ups
only occur when surfing a site and are not an attempt

to
take over your OS or to make changes to it. The XP
firewall is one of the best there is and makes your
computer virtually invisible to anyone looking to hack
into your OS. Pop-Ups are not hacking attempts. You see
when clicking a Universal Resource Locater you are
effectively signing an electronic agreement to allow

the
site to activate pop-ups through various methods as a
means of advertising to pay for the site. I am using a
rather old program but one that is the most effective

and
that is one that places around 5 thousand DNS suffixes

in
windows\system32\drivers\etc file and then pop-ups

won't
happen as when your system is checked it effectively

says
you already have the pop up so it isn't loaded. Good
luck.
.

There are different types of pop-ups. The OP's complaint
is about messenger service abuse, not site-specific
pop-up ads. Bruce's advice is correct, and you need to
get with the program before contradicting correct

answers
with your ignorant drivel.

Er, well I'm sure that "The rev XP" will be along soon to

make comments, but
I would just like to ask: exactly where did the OP make

any reference to
Messenger?
And why are you being so abusive?

The OP made no direct reference to messenger service ads.
But he *did* say that the had to clear 156 of them, and
he suggested that some of the ads were trying to sell him
something that would stop them. This means only one thing:
messenger service abuse. If you take a moment to actually
read the posts and make a modest attempt to interpret
what is being asked, you will not have to embarrass
yourself by asking stupid questions.
As for my alleged abusiveness, I referred to the response
as "ignorant drivel" because that is what it was. If you
consider an accurate description of the quality of the
post to be abuse, then *mea culpa*.

*You* don't seem to be able to read, you muppet.
The first question I asked was "exactly where did the OP make any reference
to Messenger?" I do not see this as a stupid question, the OP made *no
reference* to messenger. You *assumed* messenger because the OP was getting
pop-up ads. I do not think messenger is the only way to get pop-up ads. Look
around this newsgroup, LOTS of people complain about this sort of
advertising and they are NOT all caused by messenger. You think messenger
has a monopoly on this?

Your "alleged abusiveness": What you saw as "ignorant drivel" was somebody
helping somebody else. If you see this as "ignorant drivel", then this tells
me and everybody else here, what sort of person you are. The fact that you
don't even see it as abuse, speaks volumes.
Muppet.
