Possibly USB3? I'm not sure whether those will work
in XP. But I haven't actually tried. I do have a later
model Sandisk that works in XP32 and Win7-64, but
doesn't show on my Win7-32 laptop. I have no idea
why. My older Sandisk tick works fine on all of them.

My NEC USB3 card works fine under WinXP SP3.
I have several good USB3 sticks, and a few more
USB3-in-name-only sticks, and all are detected
and function.

I had a couple Lexar ones that died, but that was
a couple of years ago now. They had TLC flash chips
(Which I'm sure all the remaining ones are also TLC).
One minute they were writing at about 10MB/sec,
the next minute 1.5MB/sec and eventually (a couple hours),
they were toast.

I wish there were better utilities for USB flash
sticks, but that's really expecting too much from
the manufacturers, to have an actual diagnostic
that can tell you "toast imminent".

The hard drive companies make test programs that
deliver various "codes" for hardware trouble, and
using those code values, you can request warranty
service. Which is better than nothing. The flash companies
could put a program right on the stick, and then you'd always
have a match for your product, in terms of detection
and statistics.

Bascially, SMART for flash sticks. Yeah, that would be useful but that costs money to the
companies.
