Default Can't install Windows 7 update for Meltdown CPU flaw, solved

That patch is gated by the status of your AV product.

If the AV product has not been patched to "accept"
that update, there will be trouble.

The AV product (by agreement with Microsoft), sets a flag
to indicate the AV is ready for the MS patch, and then the MS
patch can "take".

Failure to do that, could cause Windows startup problems. As
the AV thinks it's under attack.

(One user was bricked yesterday. Flag or no flag.)

The presence of this key, was supposed to indicate all is well.

Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"Subkey="SOFTWARE\Microsof t\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat"
"cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc" DWORD 0

Thanks, Paul. I did read that on the MS page for the patch, and
checked my registry for the proper entry before I tried downloading
the patch.
