Default networking the printer/scanner

Greetings all

I have a Canon MX870 all in one printer scanner. It got switched
to the wife's computer when I got a new (to me) Epson. Which is now
dead, and merely awaiting the man with the cart crying "bring out your
dead."

While I can print to the Canon through her's from my machine, I
can't seem to figure out how to get it to scan from here to there (or
there to here). As it seems to think it is not connected to the LAN.
Umm, it prints? What seems to be the issue?
(I had a similar problem with the Epson and _it_ was plugged
directly into my machine. Got around that one by "sneaker net").

The printer is not setup "wireless". But I'm open to suggestions.

Is the printer plugged into an RJ45 Ethernet port on your router ?

Is the printer plugged into a USB port on her computer ?

Does her computer have two LAN ports, and the printer is plugged
into the second LAN port (ICS Internet Connection Sharing 192.168.1.1) ?

Give some details on the connection method.

I'm trying to figure out whether it's "routable" or not.
Once you give the info, Char can do the analysis for you :-)
