Default WinXP's Power Management Issue

wrote in message ...
Hi,
I use an old IBM Thinkpad T23 laptop with dual boot Win98se or WinXP.
It is on all day long until 4:30PM. Note: WinXP home edition SP2.
When not in use for some time, I will reboot into Win98se because the
"Power Management" will stop the hard disk drive spinning after a selected
period of time. Unfortunately, WinXP's "Power Management" does not
"work" for this purpose.
Does anyone know of a "fix"?
Thank You in advance, John

The readme says something about it "reading the battery status" ?
Paul

It seems to contain a Power Management driver, a battery information driver
and a registry patch. If it doesn't help, there are newer downloads at

Hi Ben,
I downloaded (via above link) the Power Management for IBM PC Win2000/XP
and installed it. Clicking on the Power Management icon via IBM
Configuration, the screen looked exactly like WinXP's PM with the exact same
settings for "Plugged In". Unfortunately, far beyond 20 minutes
(setting), the hard disk (no activity) is still spinning.
Note: I forgot to mention that I use an AC Adapter with my Thinkpad all
the time.
Thanks for your effort, John

Another possibility is that something in the background is accessing the hard drive
and interrupting the spin down. You might also check Device Manager for conflicts
and errors that might cause this kind of problem. Also, restart the computer and go
into the BIOS setup and see if there any applicable settings that might need to be changed.
Be sure to save any changes when exiting.
