Default [OT] How to use a 'news:' URL.

Hi Frank Slootweg,
Thanks for explaining the news:url syntax which I have never used prior.

As you're well aware, my "usenet reader" is "vi" (now gVim) written
years ago, using scripts, so the actual posting is done, literally,
via "telnet" to a port such as 119.

I agree with you that, for most people, that "news:url" should be
sufficient, where I would expect no more of you than that URL, I agree.

While I haven't touched a newsreader in years, I installed one which asked:
o What do you want to do with this message id?
a. Locally search for this MsgID in all groups?
b. Locate article at Google Groups
c. Try to retrieve this article from a newsserver

With your helpful clarification, I was able to find the article using:

Which, on Howard Knight's lookup, brought me to:
http://al.howardknight.net/msgid.cgi?STYPE=msgid&A=0&MSGI=%3Cpql56t.8k8.1%40I D-201911.user.individual.net%3E

Once I had that URL, I could construct a conventional URL:
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/FsRRoQbdKeo/biXD3Zv0AwAJ

Which brings us to this exact post using a conventional URL:
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/FsRRoQbdKeo/raXereNjBwAJ

As you know, I always follow the maxim:
o If a poster acts like an adult, I treat them as an adult
o If a poster acts like a child, I treat them as a child

I don't have to prove they act like a child; all I do it point out that
what they write proves they act like a child.

You see Frank, one thing I _know_ is _always_ a fact, is that I'm a mirror.
You (and many Usenet posters) don't believe this, and yet, you can't find a
single instance in my thousands of posts where I "drew first blood".

You _always_ say that, Frank - and I _always_ prove you're wrong.
Just like you were just now Frank.

Since I'm an adult, I simply provide facts proving what I say is a fact:

In that thread, organized the way Google does (so it's reproducible):
o Post 1: Arlen; What do you use to backup & share your installed apps?
o Post 2: visiblink; Thanks for the references to APK Extractor
o Post 3: Cresswell; +1 for APK Extractor
o Post 4: Frank; +1 because it saves the APKs in the Download folder!
o Post 5: Frank; I use Astro which does the same
o Post 6: Arlen; More information and links and detilas & focus on the OP
o Post 7: Arlen; Update, limitations of the F-Droid APK Extrator
o Post 8: Frank; *Nope, the "doubly stupid" here is you*.

Do you see facts Frank?
Or are facts always invisible to you, Frank?

You're like the guy who gets a speeding ticket who blames the cops.
You're like the bank robber who blames the news for publishing his crime.

Who _always_ "draws first blood" Frank?
HINT: It's _never_ me. It's _always_ you, Frank.
I simply "respond" to what you write.

Let's move forward, in facts, like *adults* do.

Post 9: Arlen; Instead of playing silly games, I prefer to move forward
Post 10: Arlen; More details to supplement the previous post of details
Post 11: Frank; "*You*, OTOH *are* playing *stupid* games, by trying to
dodge this issue of not reading / not learning and trying to divert to your
ever so stupid game of drawing first blood. "

Wow. Look at this. Again, you *again* out of the blue call me names and
accuse me of "drawing first blood" when I expressly avoided your childish
comments and stayed perfectly on topic.

Now Frank, I don't care about the name calling (that's just childish); but
what I care about are facts.

You _always_ say I "draw first blood" and yet, the proof I provide _always_
shows that _you_ do it. Not me.

You know why I know the proof will _always_ do that?
HINT: I have a strategy in Usenet and tactics that follow it.
Part of those tactics are to treat adults like adults, Frank.

Let's move on with the facts, shall we?
Post 12: visiblink; helpful information about ragib.appbackup.pro
Post 13: Arlen; helpful information about sharing data
Post 14: Arlen; thanks to visiblink & helpful supporting links
Post 15: Frank; Have a look at: 'SyncMe Wireless'

OK Frank. After you "drawing first blood" twice, you _finally_ add a
purposefully helpful comment, or so it seems.

However, if we _look_ at this syncme wireless supposed "solution", which
one look at in the home page says that it's useless since it has so many
*obvious* flaws, that it only takes seconds to ditch it out of hand.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bv.wifisync
1. It has _nothing_ to to with generating a list of installed apps
2. It has _nothing_ to do with packaging them up as APKs
3. It has _nothing_ to do with sharing that list of URLs with others
4. It is limited to a shared folder(s?) on your PC
- You press "Add Computer"
- It scans for computers but fails on "Netbios" (predictably), saying
"Netbios name not available (port 137 is blocked)"
"Sync may not function properly"
5. This message goes on for about 250 IP addresses...
192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5, ... 192.168.1.253
6. I run an ipconfig on the desktop, which reports 192.168.1.22
7. I enter the following into the SyncMe Wireless GUI:
Computer Name: 192.168.1.22
Domain: 192.168.1.22
User: uname
Password: passwd
8. I press "OK"; it says
"Validating computer information, it may take a few seconds"
9. It says: "Connection reset"
10. I try again (sometimes, with computers that matters), but it says:
"Unexpected error class java.to.StreamCorruptedException"

I'll post screenshots later as I have to go somewhere... (the wife is
calling me)...
