The whole system just turns off and any random spot in the formatting

If you are booting from the CD and reformatting as part of the
installation process then it is likely you have a hardware problem.
What exactly is it doing? "Crashing" doesn't tell us much.

I had a problem with malware on my PC. As a result I am trying to
reformat the hard drive to start anew. However my system keeps
crashing when I am in
the middle of the reformatting process. It is always at a random
spot in the
process. Is there any know way to fix this problem?

The drive could be faulty, go to the drive manufacturers web site and down
load the drive testing software.
