I have one in the Acer Aspire running XP, and that always knew it was
there.

SD is the norm for laptops etc. Micro SD is what go into phones.
You can get an adapter to allow you to put the tiny micro SD card into a
larger SD adapter and then into your Laptop.

Look in device manager and see if there are any ! next to the device (or
any device like unknown). You might be missing drivers.

Have you verified the memory card is good? Have you tried another card
or put the same in another machine?
