No, SP1 is not a prerequisite, SP2 contains all that is in SP1 and all the
updates since it. Therefore, you'll only need to install SP2 and obviously,
keep the computer updated from there on.

In other words does SP2 "roll up" all security patches
and other updates from XP's inception or only from SP1?

My grandson's computer has the orignal XP. It was never
hooked up to the internet. He enters 1st grade next week
and he'll pobably need internet access very soon. I
ordered the SP2 CD to avoid downloading hundreds of
megabytes and want to know if I should order the SP1 CD
as well. (Links to ordering an SP1 CD would also be
appreciated if necessary.)
