I give up. I installed Firefox, made it my "default" browser,
and like magic, the annoying message stopped and everything works as
intended.


IMHO, this thread ended a little prematurely. Now we have a cliff hanger
on our hands. What the heck does this mean, "Thunderbird DOES NOT use
Windows." ;-)

We may never know.
