Which version of ABBYY FineReader do you have?

I have 'ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint' which came with my Epson scanner.
I got it when I still had Windows Vista, but now have it on Windows 8.1
(64-bit Windows, 32-bit version of ABBYY FineReader) and it works fine,
despite Epson saying it's not compatible with 8.1. No idea if this
version works on Windows 10.

If you're really desperate, I can try to dig up the installation CD
and send its contents to you via wetransfer.com (assuming the email
address in your 'From:' line is correct). If you would like me to
try to find it, let me know (here).

That's very kind of you. Yes, I'd like to try that please if it isn't
too much trouble. I've had a few more goes at making my version of
FineReader work - all to no avail. Whilst I do relatively little OCR,
and have found workarounds for myself, I'm trying to persuade my wife to
move to Windows 10 (from XP!) and she uses FineReader a LOT and isn't
easily going to settle for anything else.

The stated email address does work.

I have transferred the content of my Epson installation CD to you via
wetransfer.com. There should be an email from wetransfer to your stated
email address.

I just copied the files/folders from the CD with File Explorer, i.e. I
did not make an ISO image of the CD. I think that won't make a
difference for the installation program.

I do wonder though whether your
version has been doctored so as to only work with an Epsom scanner
rather than with any TWAIN compatible scanner.

If that's the case, then, according to my notes, you can work around
that by first scanning to JPEG (*.jpg) (or another image format?) format
and then in FineReader do File - Open Image...

I used that workaround when I only had a PDF of a scanned document
which I wanted to convert to OCR text. I converted the PDF to JPEG with
(Windows) 'Snipping Tool' and then processed the .jpg file with
FineReader.

Please let me know when you have installed the software, so I can
remove the files/folders from my system.

Good luck and let me/us know how things turn out.
