Network icon in Systray not hideable

On my mothermboard there are two network connectros one for
100Mbit and another for 1000Mbit.
Currently I use the 100mbit.
Unfortuantely the icon for the 1000Mb connector does appear
permanently as well. When I hover over it the bubble tells me
"network cable is unplugged". When I look at the properties dialog
then both options - Show icon in notification area when connected
and
- Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity
are disabled/unchecked.
So why does this icon appear in Systray area anyway?

Try checking those two options, then "OK" your way out.
After that, go back in and uncheck them again and "OK" your way out.
Sometimes that will work.
