The webcam is a module in the LCD panel section.
It can be unplugged if you want. But it means
disassembly work.

On some laptops, the LCD module even differs
over the production run. For cheap laptop webcams,
they may have more than one module they can plug
in, and fill the "hole" in the bezel. The webcam
in my laptop works so poorly, that's the only
function the webcam serves, is filling that hole.

Hackers have discovered how to run webcams, without
the indicator light (if present) coming on. So you
cannot even rely on the LED indicator as a means
of determining when you're being spied on.
