Default Do we need computer to write a book?

Artificial intelligence (AI) programs (bots) that can write stories
already exist. You feed them things like the stats of a basketball game,
names of players, a few pointers to brilliant plays, etc, and the
program churns out a story. That works because sports stories are very
much alike (and why listening to commentators is such a bore compared to
watching the game). Other programs write reviews of restaurants,
products, and such. I've seen more than couple of claims that many of
the on-line reviews are in fact churned out by bots.

I do not believe an Artificial Intelligence program will ever replace a
story written by a person. I have read some and they are all obviously
formulaic. . You may not recognize the formula used for the first story
you read, but on the second it becomes obvious.

With AI programs the phrase from the credits of the old detective shows
applies, "The names and place were changed to protect the innocent" and
like the old detective shows, you quickly know where the story is going.

What makes a good piece of art, visual, or written, is the subtle
mistakes in the piece, not the perfection.
