Default WindowsClear

Trying to run WindowsUpdate led me to an invitation to install
WindowsClear. I let it install but it refused to run, gave me the
familiar "Report the malfunction to Microsoft?" or whatever it says
repeatedly. So I managed to find its Uninstall.exe (Add/Remove didn't
have it) and deep-sixed it.

Comments or advice regarding WindowsClear?

This is a commercial (payware) product. So just where did you go to do
Windows updates? Looks like either you went to a phishing site or the
DNS server you use is poisoned (i.e., you were NOT at the WU site) or
you are infected and the pest is spewing out this payware at you.

I'm sure I wasn't at a legit WU site....Clicking on the WU on my start
menu led me to it somehow. What's the right way to get to legitimate
Microsoft Updates for Windows XP?
