Messenger NOT logging in by itself
DSL; 768/100. And every time the auto login fails, it *always* works if I
manually connect. :^(

Hi Chris,
Not really -- what kind of connection are you using anyway?

I removed and re-installed MM5.0. Same problem. Seems like a timing
issue to
me; occasionally it logs in automatically; usually it fails--resulting
in my
having to log in manually.
Is there a way to increase the 'timeout' value so that the sign-in
process
will try just a little longer?

Hi Chris,
Have you tried a reinstall of Windows Messenger? To do so, close down
Messenger (right click
the messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click
close).
Then click the
start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions
and
screenshots, go to,

Reboot, click "Yes" to remove your preferences, then reinstall from

I finally had a chance to remove all the Passport data. I logged
back in
to
WinXP, but Messenger didn't automatically log in. I tried logging in
to
WinXP six times; Messenger didn't automatically log in.
I disabled Messenger protection in NAV2003 and logged back in to
WinXP
again; Messenger still didn't automatically log in. I went one step
farther
and disabled NAV2003 Auto-Protect and logged back in to WinXP again;
Messenger still didn't automatically log in. I'm seeing the same
problem
on
my WinXP laptop.
Just to be clear: I can manually log in to Messenger in all of these
scenarios. Any other ideas?

Greetings Chris,
Have you tried removing all the Passport data and then starting
again?
To
do so, first close
Messenger (right-click its icon, and choose Exit). Then click the
Start
Button, then click
the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel.
Select
the currently
logged in account, and then on the left side of the screen, under
Related
Tasks, click
'Manage my Network Passwords'. Remove everything that has is
denoted
by
(Passport) --
including Passport.Net\*, by using the 'Remove' button.
Finally, restart Messenger and see if it then automatically logs
in.

MSN Messenger 5.0.0543 is no longer automatically logging on
when
users
log
on to WinXP on our PCs. "Run Messenger when Windows Starts" and
"Allow
automatic sign in when connected to the Internet" is selected.
No
errors
are
displayed. Users can thereafter click on the Sign In to .NET
button
to
login, without difficulty. Any ideas? Why isn't it logging on
when
users
log
on to WinXP?
